The room's centrepiece is a grand open fireplace. An imposing barrel-vaulted ceiling, 17th century minstrels' gallery, heraldic friezes, suits of armour and polished oak-panelled walls create a truly memorable atmosphere in which to dine.The menu offers imaginative interpretations of authentic British dishes prepared using classical French techniques. A Michelin star was awarded to the hotel in January 2005 for the innovative cooking. Many of the ingredients are grown and reared locally, including plums from the hotel's own orchards and a wide range of herbs.
